Nope, I am not getting married. Not yet anyway, heh.
Some girls say in a wistful tone, "I wish I can get married now. Don't have to work anymore."
There are two underlying issues to such a seemingly wishful statement:
1) Is marriage a panacea to their problems?
2) Is provision a women's prerogative? What is a woman's role in society?
I don't have all the answers but here are my two sense worth, meaning - I do have ALL the answers, lol.
1) Most women dread going to work.
I understand not everyone has the privilege of pursuing their calling or passion. Loans or bills to pay are the immediate obstacles, it seems. However, what I am proposing is that noble purposes have been embedded in our hearts since Day One of our fetal calendar. Unfortunately, along the way we've been conditioned to believe that the dream in our hearts is an impossible indulgence or worse, a non-income generating luxury. As the old adage goes, do what you love and it won't feel like work!
2) Call me old-fashioned but I still believe that the man's primary role is to provide.
Before the feminists strangle me cheerfully, hear me out gals. Alot of social problems are caused by men not taking financial and familial responsiblity towards the kids. Even if they are workaholics, the women end up with the unenviable secondshift of supervising the maid and kids when they come home after a long day at work. Emotional and verbal abuse are not uncommon in such home environment. Women need the space to receive and give love. That's how they function optimally. Whether they have a job or not is secondary. The key thing is there ain't nothing for Mother Nurture to give from her love tank if she already has been sapped at work and is continually worrying about the tyrant boss. Graphically speaking, the woman is The Breast and her man is The Shield. He shields her from the bloody political action at work and when he returns home from yet another braveheart battle, she nurtures and recharges him. Nuff said. ;)
So married or not married, a gal's got dreams that society can't deride.
And my dream is to make this world a better place.
For now, I have to write a proposal on inspirational shows for the anti-smoking and Aids awarness campaigns. Help me, Jesus.
One step at a time. And in the meantime, believe in the God who believes in you!
